Bangladesh Railway Ticket Cancellation and Refund — Charges, Process and Timelines

Before booking a ticket, make sure you can access your account. If you have trouble signing in, read our Bangladesh Railway eTicket Login guide to learn how to log in through the official website or the Rail Sheba app.

Bangladesh Railway ticket cancellation and refund guide showing refund percentage chart, Rail Sheba app ticket cancellation process, refund rules, charges, timelines, and online ticket cancellation steps for Bangladesh Railway e-ticket users.

Step 1

Log into your account Go to Official site or open the Rail Sheba app and sign in with your registered mobile number and password.

Step 2

Open Purchase History Find the ticket you want to cancel in your purchase history. Each booking shows the journey details and a Cancel option if it is still eligible.
If you want to double-check that your booking is still active before cancelling it, our Bangladesh Railway PNR Status Check guide explains how to verify your ticket and booking status online.

Step 3

Confirm with the OTP Click Cancel and an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter it to confirm. The moment you confirm, your seat is released back into the system for other passengers to book.

Step 4

Wait for the refund The refund is calculated automatically based on how far ahead of departure you cancelled, and sent to the same bKash, Nagad, Rocket, or card account used for payment — typically within 3 to 5 business days for mobile wallets.

  • Bring the original physical ticket — not a photo of it — along with a valid National ID for verification.
  • Find the refund or booking desk at the station and hand over both documents.
  • Staff calculate the deduction using the same time-based percentages as the online system and return the remaining amount in cash on the spot.
  • Unlike the online process, there is no waiting period at the counter — you walk away with cash immediately, assuming you are within the eligible window.

The practical lesson: if there is any real chance you might need to cancel, hold off on printing your e-ticket at a counter until you are certain you are travelling. Keeping it digital on your phone or as an unprinted PDF preserves your ability to cancel it from home in two minutes rather than needing a station visit.

If you are unsure about your coach or seat before deciding whether to travel, our Bangladesh Railway Seat Plan guide explains how to understand your seat allocation and coach layout.

Occasionally a cancellation or payment does not behave the way it should — money deducted without a confirmed booking, or a refund that has not arrived after the expected window. Here is what actually happens in each case:

  • Payment deducted but no ticket confirmed — this is treated as a failed transaction. Your bank or mobile financial service provider refunds the amount automatically, generally within about 8 business days, without you needing to take any action.
  • Money confirmed but slow to arrive — mobile wallet payouts (bKash, Nagad, Rocket) typically land within 3 to 5 business days. Bank card payouts can take noticeably longer, depending on your card issuer’s own processing timeline, which is outside Bangladesh Railway’s direct control.
  • Genuine dispute about a cancellation or charge — raise it within 2 hours of the issue by emailing [email protected] with your e-ticket details attached. This short window applies specifically to online bookings.
